⚡ An SPC Reunion 5 Years in the Making

For Cody and Matthew, American Idiot isn't just a thrilling artistic challenge—it's a long-awaited reunion. Both actors are alumni of the renowned Saint Petersburg College (SPC) theater program, where they trained under the leadership of Scott Cooper.

  • The two last shared a stage five years ago in an SPC production of Peter and the Starcatcher.
  • In that production, Matthew played Boy/Peter, while Cody played alongside him.
  • Now, they are reuniting on the Jobsite stage to channel raw, punk-rock energy together.
"As soon as they were like, 'Oh, Matthew's doing the show,' I was like, 'Thank God, because we got a real rock star dude for the punk rock musical.'" — Cody Farkas

🎸 The Rocker Meets the "Prince of Jobsite"

The casting dynamics for this production bring a fascinating mix of theatrical backgrounds to the stage.

Matthew Morris: The Jobsite Debut

Matthew is making his official Jobsite Theater debut with this show, but his casting was a total whirlwind. After sending in a video clip of himself singing "Jesus of Suburbia," he was officially added to the cast within a mere 24 hours. As a real-life rocker who is actively in a band, Matthew is right at home with the heavy instrumentation, power chords, and acoustic moments like "Wake Me Up When September Ends".

Cody Farkas: A Seasonal Hat Trick

On the flip side, Cody has practically moved into Jobsite Theater this year. American Idiot marks his third production of the season, following his stellar runs in Comedy of Errors and The Shark Is Broken. Though he typically finds himself doing straight plays, Cody is ready to dust off his musical chops—and his guitar—for an intimate on-stage moment with a character aptly named "Whatsername".

🥁 Why American Idiot Matters Right Now

While Green Day's Grammy-winning album originally dropped in 2004 as a response to the post-9/11 landscape and the Bush administration, the cast believes its themes are more relevant than ever.

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, American Idiot provides a raw, unapologetic counter-narrative to traditional patriotism. It captures the definition of punk: being shocking not just for the sake of it, but because the message truly means something.

Whether you love Green Day, hate Green Day, or simply have strong opinions about the current political landscape, this high-octane rock musical promises an unforgettable night of live theater.
