This Isn’t Just a Karaoke Night. It’s a Building Block.

When I dreamed up The Arts Passport, I pictured a lot of things—smart arts journalism, a calendar you actually want to open, secret deals for members, even (one day) a stampable passport.
But mostly? I pictured people. Together. Laughing, dancing, connecting.
This Friday, we’re hosting a Mamma Mia! karaoke night.
It’s fabulous. And yes, someone will absolutely give their entire soul to “Winner Takes It All.”
But here’s the real reason we’re doing it:
Because nights like this help us grow—and when we grow, we can do more to support local artists.
The Arts Passport isn’t just a newsletter. It’s a movement. One that believes arts journalism should be joyful, community-driven, and fiercely local. That coverage shouldn’t be reserved for the biggest budgets or the most familiar names—but for the boldest ideas, the emerging voices, the people shaping culture in our own backyard.
But to keep doing that—to cover more, uplift more, and fund more storytelling—we need to build community. We need to be in rooms together, laughing, singing, connecting.
That’s what Friday is. It’s a party, yes. But it’s also a step toward something bigger.
So come sing with us. Come see what we’re about. Come help us grow this thing into the weird, wonderful, people-powered platform we know it can be.
